We’re proud to announce that Chesapeake Village Center has earned Emerald-level certification under the National Green Building Standard (NGBS)—the highest level of recognition within the NGBS Green Certification program.
This achievement reflects our company’s commitment to sustainability, long-term performance, and creating high-quality multifamily housing that benefits both residents and the environment.
What Is NGBS Green Certification?
The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) is a nationally recognized, ANSI-approved green building rating system. It provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating the sustainability of residential and multifamily buildings through third-party verification.
Projects are assessed across several key categories, including:
Energy efficiency
Water efficiency
Resource efficiency
Lot design and development
Indoor environmental quality
Building operation and maintenance
Certification is awarded at four levels—Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Emerald—based on a project’s verified performance.
What Emerald Level Means for Chesapeake Village Center
Emerald-level certification represents the highest achievement under NGBS, reserved for buildings that demonstrate exceptional sustainability across all evaluation areas. For Chesapeake Village Center, this distinction recognizes thoughtful design and construction choices that go beyond standard practices.
As a multifamily, structured building, Chesapeake Village Center was designed to prioritize:
Reduced energy and water consumption
Efficient use of materials and resources
Healthier indoor environments for residents
Long-term durability and operational efficiency
These features not only reduce environmental impact but also support lower operating costs and improved comfort for the people who live and work in the building.
Why This Matters
Sustainable multifamily housing plays a critical role in building stronger, more resilient communities. Achieving Emerald-level NGBS certification underscores our belief that high-performance buildings should be both environmentally responsible and people-centered.
Chesapeake Village Center demonstrates how sustainability can be integrated into multifamily development in a way that delivers real benefits—today and over the long term.
Looking Ahead
Earning Emerald-level certification is a meaningful milestone, but it’s not the finish line. We remain committed to continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability as we develop and operate buildings that reflect our values.
We’re grateful to our project partner, Chaney Enterprises, and team members who helped make this achievement possible and look forward to continuing to raise the standard for sustainable multifamily development.
